Event Notes Note (1) Minnie Kendall Lowther erroneously reports death as 1886, and birth date as 1799. (HRC, 596) Note (2) 1850 Census puts his birth at about 1811, and Minnie Kendall Lowther's "History of Ritchie County," p. 596, states that he died at age 80. Note (3) Minnie Kendall Lowther's "History of Ritchie County," p. 596, states that Margaret Willis "became Mrs. Gus Greathouse and died in Doddridge county at the age of eighty years." Margaret's death record shows her age as 96 at the time of her death on Dec 29 1898, putting her birth in about 1802. Headstone dates appear to be Nov 4 1815 - Dec 30 1896. But age 31 in 1850 Census would put birth at ca 1819, while age 55 in 1870 Census and age 65 in 1880 Census would put birth at ca 1815, which also coincides with the birth date on her headstone. Doddridge County marriage records contain the following entry: Wesley Sigler, 63, b. Allegany Co, Maryland, res. Doddridge Co; and Mrs. Margaret Greathouse, 61, b. & res. in Doddridge County. Married March 13, 1895 "at the residence of Mr. Bottoms, Arnolds Creek," officiated by N. E. Duckworth, a minister of the Gospel. However, all the entries made by the minister documenting the date and location of the marriage were later lined through. Consequently, on the basis of the marriage record alone, it is unclear whether this couple were actually married. When Margaret died 3-1/2 years later, she was identified in her death record as Margaret Greathouse. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=11792779&Type=Marriage
