He had enlisted as a Substitute Volunteer for Alfred Jennings, Esquire, of Doddridge County and was paid the sum of $300.00 by the Jennings Family. During his service, William worked at Remount Stations due to his knowledge of horses. His father, Jasper Wyatt was also a Union Civil War Soldier, serving with Co "E" 6th W.Va.
