(Note: The birth dates of John Blackwell and his sister Sarah have been widely reported as Sep 9 1839 and Apr 26 1841, respectively. In the case of Sarah, that was based on her age inscribed on her headstone. But the 1850 Census contradicts this, showing that Sarah was the older of the two. A closer examination of Sarah's headstone shows a death date of Feb 4 1853, with age indicated as 14 years, 9 months. Days are not specified. If number of days is zero, the birth date would be May 4 1838.)
