Event Notes Note (1) at the home of his son Archibald Note (2) In household of son Archibald and his family. Note (3) on the banks of the Yadkin River. DAR Lineage Book, Vol 160, p. 265, states birth date as 1766. Note (4) Alexander Lowther was a Private in Captain John Bozarth's 5th Regiment Virginia Militia. On 30 Oct 1850, Alexander Lowther stated that he was drafted into Captain John Bozarth's 5th Regiment Virginia Militia in Clarksburg on 1 Sept 1814 for a six-month tour. He was honorably discharged at Fort Nelson, Norfolk, Va on 9 Dec 1814 after furnishing a substitute for the remainder of his tour. His military file also shows that Alexander and Rachel were married in West Union, Harrison County by Samuel Archbold. However, their marriage record is on file in Tyler County. Alexander Lowther's physical description at time of draft: 5'9", blue eyes, fair complexion, light hair, farmer living in Harrison County, Va. Rachel stated that they always resided in Ritchie County (Oxford) after their marriage. Note (5) "History of Ritchie County," p. 228, states her birthdate as Apr 10 1792, but "Ritchie County Cemeteries," p. 647, reports headstone date as Apr 18 1792. Note (6) In 1860, in home of daughter Rebecca Willard Brown Note (7) "History of Ritchie County," p. 13, reports birth date as May 24 1795. But age 60y 10m 2d on headstone calculates to a birth date of Jun-20-1795. Note (8) Although Minnie Kendall Lowther in "History of Ritchie County," p. 14, reports their marriage date as about 1809, which would conform to the 1810 birth date that she incorrectly reports for their oldest child Andrew, Harrison County marriage records show that Robert Lowther married Polly Hattabaugh (or Radabaugh or Hallebaugh, the handwritten record being barely legible) on Mar 21 1815. Linder, in "Gibson and Related Families," p. 442, also reports an 1815 marriage date and shows Andrew's birth date as about 1816, conforming to his age 44 given in 1860 Census.
