Notes for: William Lowther

In about 1797, William Lowther "went to Ohio for the purpose of seeking a home, and, while on the Muskingum River, he helped to rear the first cabin where the city of Zanesville now stands, but owing to the prevalence of 'fever and ague' in this section, he returned to his home satisfied to remain at West Milford." William and Margaret Morrison Lowther were the parents of twelve children, six of whom reached maturity. Five of them married, and four of that five were the heads of pioneer families of Ritchie County.
