Cemetery. Informant: Harold Nutter, Greenwood W.Va. (Note: This death certificate is
on file at the WV Div of Vital Statistics and accessible via the WV Archives website. The
corresponding entry on page 117 in the ledger-style death record at the Doddridge County
court house gives his name as "------- Nutter" and contains only the following
information: White male, farmer; died Oct 29 1924 at Oxford, age 58y 7m 11d, cause of
death stomach trouble. Informant: Valla Martin, registrar.
Event Notes
Note (1) The 1860 Census shows age as 35, putting birth in about 1825. But the 1870
Census shows his age as 53, putting birth in about 1817, and the 1880 Census
shows his age as 63, also putting birth in about 1817. Don Norman's
"Descendants of Christopher Nutter" reports birth date as 1818, corresponding to
age 74 in death record.
Note (2) The 1860 Census of Doddridge County gives age as 34 (b. ca 1826), born in
Virginia, while the 1870 Census gives age 48 (b. ca 1822), born in Maryland, and
the 1880 Census gives age 60 (b. ca 1820), born in Maryland. Her death record
in May 1892 gives age as 63 (b. ca 1829), born in Barbour Co; both age and
birthplace are considered incorrect. Brad Spiker specifies birthdate as Nov 16
1821. Don Norman, in "The Descendants of Josiah Hart," reports birth as ca
1828, probably based on her death record.
