Andrew & Emaline Hart. Birth Record Book 1, page 109, indicates a birth date of Aug 3 1880, while BR Bk 1, p. 115,
shows a birth date of Sep 3 1881. Both entries are typewritten ledger entries transcribed from the original handwritten
records. Since an Aug 1880 birth date is given in the 1900 Census, the Sep 1881 entry is presumed to be a clerical
error.
(44) Doddridge County Birth Records, West Union, WV, Identified as Mintus Delores Hart, white female, dau of Andrew N. &
Emmeline Hart. The original entry in the typed transcribed ledger-style birth record has her birth date as June 25
1885, but affidavit submitted by uncle David Dow Gaston in the 1940's corrected it to January 25 1885. Regardless, this
the same daughter identifed in the 1900 Census as Denovas M. Hart, born Jan 1882, and in Andrew N. Hart's obituary as
Denova M. Smith of Clarksburg. She is identified in her death record as Mintus D. Smith, b. Jan 25 1885, dau of Andrew
N. Hart & Emmaline Britton. Although the Jan 1882 birth date is more likely, we report the Jan 25 1885 date here to

Event Notes
Note (1) Age 64y 7m 18d at death would put birth date at Nov 6 1846. But his
obituary, which also states his age as 64y 7m 18d, specifies his birth date as
Sep 6 1846. Age given at Aug 1867 marriage was 20, and at Aug 1888 marriage
was 41, both of which would support a birth date in Sep or Nov 1846. Other
sources have given his birth date ranging from abt 1844 to abt 1849, to include
the 1900 Census listing his birthdate as Sep 1847, and a family information
survey completed by son John W. Hart in 1931 which reported the birth of Andew
N. Nutter as Sep 6 1848 in Harrison Co. His birth place was reported in his
marriage record as Doddridge Co, in agreement with his death record. It is
noted that prior to Doddridge County's formation in 1853, much of was a part of
Harrison County.
Note (2) Wes Cochran's "Doddridge County WV Marriages 1845-1937" gives marriage date
as Oct 30 1867.
Note (3) A family information survey completed by son John W. Hart in 1931 identified
his mother as Miss Emaline Britton, born Mar 14 1850, died May 18 1890. Those
dates are at variance with information contained in her marriage and death
records.
Note (4) W. Guy Tetrick files report William Hart's birth date as Feb 8 1870 and his
death date as Feb 21 1917. But death records show that he died Feb 15 1918 in
Bridgeport at the age of 48y 7m 5d, putting his birth date at Jul 20 1869. He
is not listed in the 1870 Census, but does appear in the 1880 Census, age 9,
putting birth in about 1871.. His age was given as 22 at time of his January
1893 marriage, also putting birth in about 1871.
Note (5) But headstone shows birth as 1877. Age 52 given at birth of son John in Aug
1932 would put birth in 1879 or 1880.
Note (6) A family information survey completed by John W. Hart in 1931 reported their
marriage date as Aug 8 1901.
Note (7) Eddith [sic] C. Campbell listed as an heir of Andrew N. Hart.
Note (8) Lena L. Hart, b. Aug 1880, appeared in the 1900 Census of Doddridge County WV
(Central District) as a hired housekeeper in the home of Samuel H. Douglass and
