(5) Taylor County Death Records, Grafton, WV, Identified as Mary Ann Burns, white female, married, age 55y 11m 28d, born in Ohio; died Jun 18 1904 in Broadwell, Athens Co, Ohio, cause of death paralysis. Buried in Ohio on Jun 21 1904. Undertakers: John A. McCabe, Grafton, and J. C. Snedicker, Ohio. Certifying physician: F. S. Suddarth, Grafton. NOTE: Although her death occurred elsewhere, it is recorded in Taylor County presumably because she was still a resident there, as she had been for the 1900 Census. Paralysis is a term that was used at that time to refer to the effects of a stroke, which she may have suffered while visiting her former residence in Athens County, Ohio. But age 1 in the 1850 Census puts it in about 1849, and the 1900 Census shows it as Jun 1849. Note (2) Birth date given in death record as Jun 10 1874, and age 26 in his Nov 1900 marriage record also puts it in about 1874. But the 1900 Census shows it as June 1875, and his WW I draft registration specifies Jun 10 1875. Age 4 in the 1880 Census would support the 1875 date. Note (3) Burial location left blank on death record. Since he died at the Weston State Hospital, it is possible that he was buried in the hospital's cemetery.Name Index
