Furthermore, Azariah Menear, Elizabeth's father, testified in her Widow's Pension affidavit that the family Bible says she and James O. Duckworth were married on 3 Aug 1862. Other affidavits in James O. Duckworth's military records support the 3 Aug 1862 date. Records further reflect that James O. Event Notes Note (1) James O. Duckworth enlisted in the Union Army in West Union on Jul 28 1862. On Aug 23 1862, he mustered-in on active duty as a Corporal in Company A, 14th W.Va. Infantry, in Wheeling, Ohio County, (West) Virginia. On May 9 1864, he was wounded and left on the battlefield at Cloyd's Mountain. According to assistant surgeon J. H. Brownfield, he was shot with a musket ball through the right arm and chest. He died about two weeks later near Dublin Station, Pulaski County, Virginia, on either 20 or 22 May 1862, according to conflicting military records. He was listed as a Sergeant at the time of his death. His burial place in not known. Note (2) Age 18 in 1862 marriage record would put birth in about 1844. But age 14 in 1860 Census puts it in about 1846.Name Index
