Sealed with our seals, and dated this 14th day of Septr 1807. "The condition of the above Obligation is such, that whereas there is a Marriage shortly intended to be solemnized between William Jaco & Sarah Spence Mott, Ward of the said James Fleming, now if there be no lawful cause to object the said Marriage, then the above Obligation to be void, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. (12) Harrison County Marriage Records, Clarksburg, WV, Complete text of the marriage bond: "Know all men by these presents that we, Luke Jaco and James Terry, are held and firmly bound unto John Floyd, Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, for the time being, and his successors, for the use of the said Commonwealth, in the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars; to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our and each of our heirs, executors and administrators jointly and severly, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals, and dated this 16 day of Nov 1830. "Whereas a Marriage is suddenly intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound Luke Jaco & Elizabeth Prunty. "Now the condition of the above obligation is such, that if there be no lawful cause, or just impediment to obstruct said marriage, then the said obligation to be void, else to remain in full force and virtue. "Signed and acknowledged in the presence of Luke Jaco, James Terry (his mark)" (NOTE: James H. Terry was Luke Jaco's brother-in-law, married to his sister Elizabeth Jaco.) (NOTE: A separate document now filed with this marriage bond was the written consent of Joseph Prunty for Luke Jaco to marry his daughter, signed by Joseph Prunty and witnessed by James Terry and James Fleming. Relationship of James Fleming to the other parties is not known. The full text is as follows: "Harrison County and State of Virginia to Mr. John Willson, Clerk (next word illegible). Luke Jaco have license to marry my Daughter and in so doing you will oblige me. "Joseph Prunty, his hand (seal) "test James Terry, James Fleming") , BR Bk 4 p. 498 : www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_view.aspx?Id=42698&Type=Marriage. (13) Headstone (year only) Event Notes Note (1) William Jaco is presumed to have died before August 1820 because of his absence from that census, wherein his wife was listed as head of household. Note (2) In household of daughter Elizabeth (Jaco) Terry. Note (3) The tax assessment list for the period Sep - Dec 1862 in Doddridge County included an entry for Luke Jaco, residence at Arnolds Creek, assessed a tax of one dollar on a horse carriage valued at $100. Tax records also indicate that Luke Jaco was residing in Missouri in the years 1866 and 1867, but that he appeared to have returned to Doddridge after that. The last Doddridge County tax record in his name was for the year 1872, although it is not clear that he was a resident at that time, or even still living. Note (4) Note (5) On the side of James H. Terry's tall obelisk grave marker is the inscription "Elizabeth, Wife of Jas. H. Terry, Died ." Because no date in given and no record has been found of her death, it is unclear whether Elizabeth Jaco Terry is actually buried with her husband in the Terry Cemetery. Note (6) In household of son James.Name Index
