Note (2) Age at time of 1850 Census given as 15, between older sister Ann and younger
brother William, thus putting his birth date at about 1835. But age 21 at time
of marriage in Aug 1859 would put birth date at 1838, and age at time of
re-marriage in May 1871 was given as 33, putting birth date at about 1837 or
1838.
Note (3) Age reported as 10 at time of 1850 Census, putting birth date at about 1840.
But age 24 reported at time of Dec 1863 marriage would put birth date at about
1839, and age 53 reported at time of Mar 1891 marriage would put birth date at
about 1838. Birth date given in 1900 Census as Aug 1839.
Note (4) In 1864, he was a guard at Blockhouse No. 8 on the Northwest Virginia
Railroad. He filed for an invalid's pension on Apr 26 1881. In 1915, and again

NOTE: The state-issued Civil War medal intended for him was never claimed
