- Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursay, Sep 7 1916, in its entirety:
"Lathrop Cain, son of Edwin Cain of Middle Island, who has been out in the big golden west for some twenty years and who is now located at Port Blakely, Washington, is spending a few days with West Union and Central district friends. And while we don't know a single thing about it, rumors of a very persistent nature have it that he will not return to the west alone -- we repeat, rumors have it that this splendid old scout won't return to the big west alone."
