    • Local news item in the Central Station column, "Doddridge County Republican," May 11 1916, in its entirety:
      "W. S. Shinn lost a fine young heifer last week in a rather unusual manner. Orchard men had been using water from a spring in the pasture for spraying purposes, and in some manner the liquid used for spraying had run from the sprayer back into the spring from which the water was being pumped. When the animal drank from the spring, it only lived a few minutes, and did not get more than ten or fifteen feet away."
