Note (1) In 1850, listed as a laborer in the household of Franklin Maxwell.
Note (2) According to family legend, he returned from the war complaining of stomach
pains, and died not long afterwards.
Note (3) Birth date given in 1900 Census as Nov 1854 and in obituary as Nov 25 1854,
which conflicts with birth date of older sister Mary.  Furthermore, the ages of
Mary and Catherine in the 1870 Census were 15 and 14 respectively.
Note (4) in household with her future husband and in-laws
Note (5) "History of Doddridge County," p. 154, gives marriage date as Sep 25 1857. 
This is incorrect.  Marriage records show they were married on Jun 18 1885. 
Martha Leggett's birthdate was Sep 26 1857.
