Exact identity and relationship of the latter was not indicated, but he may have been Samuel Jackson Squires (1884-1967) whose daughter Jewell married Russell Broadwater. Halie's sister Hazel married Frank Broadwater, relationship to Russell not known, if any at all. Although identified as "Eldwin Carroll" in the marriage record, obituary of wife identified him as "Elden (Hez) Carroll.", MR Bk 13, p. 30. (10) Doddridge County Birth Records, West Union, WV, Delayed birth certificate filed Nov 12 1943 by Maude Barr, "Friend of Family." Entry identifies child as a male (clearly incorrect), born Nov 12 1908. Parents identified as Joseph McKinney, age 45 at time of child's birth, and Rosie Jones, age 33. Child identified as the mother's fifth child. Name entered as "Halie Frances McKinney," but marriage record in Oct 1932 identifies her as "Mahalie McKinney," age 22. This would put her birth in Nov 1909, rather than the Nov 1908 of her birth record. Since both her obituary and SSDI entry also have her birth as Nov 12 1909, we conclude that the information provided by the "friend of family" was in error and that the correct birth date is Nov 12 1909. The Nov 12 1910 birth date given in her 1954 marriage record cannot be correct, since she appeared as a one-year-old daughter in the 1910 Census.
