Event Notes Note (1) A death date of Aug 20 1858 has also been reported. But the following newspaper account of his death states that he died on Aug 18 1858. "Wheeling (W.Va.) Daily Intelligencer," Thursday, Sep 2 1858, in its entirety: "SUDDEN DEATH -- We learn that Mr. Daniel Underwood, of Tyler county, was killed by the falling of a tree, on the 18th inst. The tree struck him on the right side of the head, mashing the skull. The accident occurred about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and he was not found till nine in the evening. He was then insensible, and never spoke afterwards. He leaves a wife and one child." Note (2) Although birth records show a birth date of Oct 18 1856, it is shown as Feb 1857 in the 1900 Census, while age 51y 10m 14d in her death record calculates to a birth date of Dec 25 1857. She was age 2 in the 1860 Census, and age 17 in her 1875 marriage record, both of which would put her birth in about 1858. Her headstone has only the year 1857.
