Event Notes Note (1) Unable to read or write. Note (2) A death date of Aug 20 1858 has also been reported. But the following newspaper account of his death states that he died on Aug 18 1858. "Wheeling (W.Va.) Daily Intelligencer," Thursday, Sep 2 1858, in its entirety: "SUDDEN DEATH -- We learn that Mr. Daniel Underwood, of Tyler county, was killed by the falling of a tree, on the 18th inst. The tree struck him on the right side of the head, mashing the skull. The accident occurred about 3 o'clock in the afternoon, and he was not found till nine in the evening. He was then insensible, and never spoke afterwards. He leaves a wife and one child." Note (3) Age in 1870 Census would put birth in about 1837. Note (4) Age 22 in 1866 marriage record puts birth in about 1844. But age 32 in 1873 death record would put birth in about 1841, while age 8 in the 1850 Census, 18 in 1860, and 28 in 1870 consistently put it in about 1842.
