Event Notes Note (1) Military records show that Thomas Jackson Smith enlisted in Co. A, 14th W.Va. Infantry, on 30 Mar 1864 in West Union. He mustered in as a Private on 18 April 1864 in Wheeling. Sick in various hospitals from April 30, 1864 to when he mustered out on 3 May 1865. Note (2) Birth date given in 1900 Census as May 1858, but birth record and headstone show it as Feb 27 1857. Age in 1860 Census was four.
