(16) West Union WV Cemeteries (Doddridge County), Wes Cochran, 2515 10th Ave, Parkersburg, WV 26101 (July 1990) Event Notes Note (1) He gave his age as 18 at the time of his miltary enlistment in July 1863, which would put his birth in about 1845. But he again gave his age as 18 at his reenlistment a year later. Age 1 in the 1850 Census and age 12 in the 1860 Census would put his birth in about about 1848 or 1849. Note (2) News article, "Wheeling Daily Register," Tuesday, June 18, 1867, in its entirety: MAN KILLED ON THE RAILROAD On Saturday morning Mr. Albert Wright met with a fatal accident at West Union, Doddridge county, on the Northwestern railroad. Mr. Wright attempted, at West Union station, to jump upon the "way freight" train, while in motion, which had one passenger car attached. In jumping, his foot struck the side of the step on the car and was caught between that and the platform of the depot, and he was thereby thrown upon the track, several cars passing over his body. The unfortunate man survived about three hours. He was a young man, had no family, and was an employe of the road. Note (3) Military records show that on July 28 1863 in West Union, Albert Wright enlisted as a Private in Co H, 4th W.Va. Cavalry, for a term of six months. He gave his age as 18 at that time. He mustered in on Aug 29 1863 in Parkersburg, and mustered out with the company in Wheeling on March 8 1864. He then voluntarily reenlisted on Sep 4 1864 in Co C, 6th W. Va. Infantry in Grafton, and mustered in as a Private on Sep 5 1864 in Grafton. He again gave his age as 18, birthplace Doddridge County. The record shows no muster out date or place.
