Note (2) Age 64 at time of 1895 marriage would put birth date in about 1831, and age 37 in the 1870 Census puts it in about 1833. But his birth date was given in the 1900 Census as May 1834, age 66. Although the birth date on his weathered gravestone appears to read Nov 23 1828, the possibility cannot be discounted that it's actually May 23 1828. "Davis - The Settlers of Salem WV," p. 127, reports his birth date as Nov 28 1828, and also incorrectly reports his death date as Feb 27 1898. We have found no death record for him. Note (3) Birth date given in marriage record as Dec 4 1834, but age 69y 6m 6d in death record calculates to a birth date of Nov 8 1833, same as on his headstone. Birthplace given as Loudon Co, Virginia, in 1853 marriage record, but as Augusta Co, Virginia, in 1874 marriage record.Name Index
