Other than an article in the local newspaper indicating that he had departed for training on Sep 6 1918, there is no evidence that Everett M. Knight ever served in the U.S. military. The article stated that he was part of a group of thirteen Doddridge County recruits in the so-called Limited Service class, indicating that they had certain physical limitations that would preclude full-scale military combat training and duties. This is consistent with his WW I draft registration card of June 1918, which indicated that he had a broken arm. In the 1930 Census, in response to the question as to whether he was a veteran of the U.S. military, his answer was No. His obituary also makes no mention of military service.

Under Louie Knight's direction, the Doddridge County High School Band flourished with over 100 members strong earning numerous honors and awards. The DCHS Band was Louie’s "pride and joy" for 18 years. In 1973, Louie accepted and administrative position with the Doddridge County School Board as the Business Manager and Treasurer and remained there for 13 years until his retirement in 1987 with a total of 31 years of service. Louie became the "voice of Doddridge County" as the announcer of all football games and track events for 20 plus years. In 1990, Louie was elected as a Doddridge County Commissioner and completed two terms in office. In addition, Louie worked for 30 plus years at the Doddridge County Senior Center.
