    SUTTON, WALTER D., 80, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (July 17, 2004) at home. He was born in Burma and came to Florida in 1979. He was a senior official of the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., from 1950 to 1979, when he retired. Survivors include his wife, Rhoda; a daughter, Candy Aaron, Westminster, Md.; a granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters. Neptune Society, Palm Harbor. (St. Petersburg Times, 7/22/2004)

    WALTER D. SUTTON
    Walter D. Sutton, 80, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Swanton, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at his home in Florida.
    He was preceded in death by one son, Walter "Chip" Jr., who was killed in an aircraft accident in 1981.
    He was the son of missionary parents and grew up in Burma, where he spent his childhood. He and his wife spent nearly every summer in Garrett County for the past 30 years.
    During World War II, her served as a junior officer in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Caine. He was an official of the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., from 1950 until his retirement in 1979 as the director's press review officer. While at the CIA, he held several senior level positions, including the chief of the Southeast Asia Branch of the Office of Current Intelligence, the director's representative in Singapore, and the principal liaison officer with British Intelligence.
    Surviving are his wife, Rhoda Sutton; one daughter, Candy Aaron, Westminster; one granddaughter; and two great-granddaughters.
    Plans are being made for interment in Arlington National Cemetery, where a memorial service will be conducted sometime in August.
