"Mr. & Mrs. Samp Wells of Greenwood have been notified by the War Dept. that their son, Pfc. Charles Albert Wells, 91st Air Service Group, was injured in a jeep accident on Saipan, May 7th, 1945, and died on May 11th.
"Pfc. Wells entered the service Nov. 31st [sic], 1942, trained at Miami Beach, Fla., Columbia S.C., Barksdale Field, La., and Oklahoma City, Okla., spent nine months overseas, and died on the same day his father was discharged from service in World War I. He also had the same rating as his father, who was in the Rainbow Division and was discharged May 11, 1919.
"Pfc. Wells was born in Middlebourne, March 2, 1923. He leaves his parents, his wife, Mrs. Bessie Ivers Wells, and the following brothers and sisters: Rowena, Zonetta, Olive, Samp Jr., at home, and James Wells at Parkersburg."
