| 3. | Ammi Almanzia BROWN Other Events:
Notes: Very little has been found regarding Ammi Almanzia Brown and wife Almira Sanders. It is not known for sure when or where they were married or when they moved to Minnesota. Born in Massachusetts in 1829, Ammi was found in the 1840 Census with his parents and brother residing in Burlington, Otsego Co, NY. He was next found in the 1855 State Census of Otsego County, New York, along with his first wife Deborah and their daughter Ida. Five years later, the 1860 Census found him residing in Crawford County, Wisconsin with Deborah, and their two children, Ida and Edwin. (Further evidence of this first marriage is his 1898 application to the Washington Soldiers Home, on which he stated that he had two children, ages 44 and 16.) He was a resident of Palmyra, Jefferson Co, Wisconsin in Aug 1862 when he entered military service for the Civil War. Ammi's and Almira's marriage must have occurred upon Ammi's return from Civil War duties, as they are found together in the 1870 Census in Guilford, Chenango Co, New York. They were next found in the 1885 Census of Wadena Co, Minnesota, with son Addison. Ammi married Deborah S. THOMPSON. Deborah was born CA 1837, Otsego Co, NY. [Group Sheet]

| 8. | Addison Avery BROWN Other Events:
Notes: Born in Minnesota in 1881, Addison Brown moved from there to the state of Washington with his father in June 1893. Federal Census data of Jun 5 1900 identifies Addison Y. [sic] Brown, age 19, residing in Satsop, Chehalis County (now known as Grays Harbor County), Washington as a servant and farm laborer in the household of Edward F. Foster, b. Aug 1862 in Idaho. Addison's birthdate was given as Aug 1880 [sic], birthplace Minnesota, father's birthplace Massachusetts, mother's birthplace New York. Edward Foster's wife Mary was shown as born in Apr 1864 in West Virginia. The Fosters' neighbors were the family of Jasper and Virginia Mowry; they and the oldest five of their seven children were born in West Virginia, the younger two born in Washington. We can only speculate that it was through the Fosters and/or the Mowrys that Addison was somehow introduced to Nancy "Babe" Haught of Doddridge County and eventually came to West Virginia. This is supported by the fact that Jasper Mowry appeared in the 1870 Census of Doddridge County (New Milton Twp) as the 9-year-old son of George & Mary Mowry, and that Jasper N. Mowry & Jennie (nickname for Virginia) Knight were married in Doddridge County on Mar 10 1856. Addison married Nancy Lou "Babe" HAUGHT 20 Dec 1910, West Union, Doddridge Co, WV. Nancy (daughter of David Marion HAUGHT and Mary WATSON) was born 19 Jan 1884, Oxford, Doddridge Co, WV; died 23 Sep 1977, Coshocton, Coshocton Co, OH; was buried , Lake Park Cemetery, Youngstown, Mahoning Co, OH. | 14. | Armand Leon BROWN Other Events:
Notes: Armand held several jobs as a youth, including doing custodial work at the West Union Post Office and pumping gas at the local filling station. After his 1941 graduation from Doddridge County High School, he worked at the A&P grocery store at the end of Main Street near the court house. He had a knack for working with fresh produce, much of which was displayed outside the store to attract customers. One person it attracted was a pretty teenager who walked by every morning on her way to school. Armand happened to be watching one day and saw her grab an apple and continue on her way. He rushed out of the store and demanded that she either return the apple or pay for it. We don't know what she ended up doing, because at this point in telling the story, Armand would always say "And that's how I met my wife. I caught her stealing apples." That teenage girl was Geneva Gaston, and they married a few years later. Although it was never made clear in the telling of the story, there's little doubt that far from being an apple thief, Geneva was simply trying to get the attention of someone special. Armand married Geneva Pauline GASTON 4 Aug 1946, West Union, Doddridge Co, WV. Geneva (daughter of Ira Dow GASTON and Ida Opal HUSK) was born 15 Nov 1926, Camp Run, Oxford, Doddridge Co, WV; died 22 Dec 2001, Clarksburg, Harrison Co, WV; was buried 27 Dec 2001, Masonic Memorial Park Cemetery, Crystal Lake (West Union), WV.
