    The following article by the Associated Press appeared in the Beckley (W.Va.) Sunday Register on Sunday, Oct 4, 1936:

    WOMAN DOCTOR LIKES HARD WORK
    AT 65, SHE SCOFFS AT HOUSEWIVES WHO COMPLAIN
    "Salem -- Dr. Xenia E. Bond, who at 65 is West Virginia's oldest practicing woman physician, says she can't sympathize with housewives who complain their work is hard.

    "Daily she walks more than eight miles in making the rounds of her patients, keeps long office hours, and frequently is called out at night. Until a few years ago, she walked more than 20 miles daily and she said she thought nothing of it.

    "Dr. Bond wanted to be a nurse. But her family objected and she decided to study medicine. She finished at Salem College and took her medical work at the University of Illinois.

    "At one time she visited her patients in a buggy. Then came an automobile, but she dislikes to drive.

    "Dr. Bond specializes in obstetical cases, and said she has aided in the birth of more than 1,000 children.

    "Even the deep snows of last winter didn't keep from making her daily rounds."
