    Birth:
    Birthplace given as Monroe County, Iowa, in marriage record, but as Decatur, Iowa (Decatur County), in son's birth record. Birth date given in the 1900 Census as March 1868, but age 4 in the 1870 Census puts it in about 1866. Her mother's 1865 death (according to husband's obituary) would then place Anna's birth in 1865. The 1879 birth date on her headstone is clearly incorrect.

    Census:
    Their mother having died in 1865, Annie and her sister Nancy (listed as Mary), were in the household of her uncle Job Stout and his family. Their father and two older brothers remained in Decature County, Iowa, where they were enumerated for this census.
