- The ages and approximate birth years for the various members of this family are highly inconsistent from one census to another. Based strictly on the the two earliest census records, in 1850 and 1860, which appear to be the most reliable, Isaac and Matilda were born in about 1824/25 and 1830/31, respectively.

1860 Census, Doddridge County, Virginia (now West Virginia), enumerated on June 1, 1860:

1870 Census, Wetzel County, West Virginia (Grant Twp), enumerated on Aug 17, 1870:
Isaac Williams, 40, farmer, value of real estate $400, value of personal estate $300, cannot read/write; Matilda, 40, cannot read/write; Silas, 18, cannot read/write; Salina, 16, cannot read/write; Jane [sic], male [sic], 14; Mary, 10; Jessa 4. All born in Virginia/West Virginia.
1880 Census, Tyler County, West Virginia (McElroy District), enumerated on June 29, 1880:
Isaac Williams, 54, farmer, cannot read/write, indicated as being "maimed, crippled, bedridden or otherwise disabled"; wife Matilda, 45; dau Cilinda, 15, cannot read/write; son Samuel, 14, works on farm, attended school within the year, cannot read/write; son Jessee, 10, works on farm; son William W, 8; son Perry C, 6; son Thornton, 3.
Isaac Williams died in 1896, according to his Civil War Pension Index card. We have found no other record of his death or burial.
1900 Census, Doddridge County, West Virginia (Grant District), enumerated on June 5, 1900:
Matilda Williams, 65, b. May 1835 in WVa (both parents b. Germany), farmer, cannot read/write, widowed, mother of 13 children (8 still living); son Jessie, 30, b. Mar 1870 in WVa, single, farm laborer, cannot read/write; son Thornton, 18, b. Sep 1881 in WVa, single, farm laborer, can read, cannot write.
NOTE: Matilda's father and mother are known from other records to have been born in Pennsylvania and Monongalia County WVa, respectively. Son Thornton is known from other records to have been born in about 1877. He was age 3 in the 1880 Census.
1910 Census, Wetzel County, WV (Grant District), enumerated on May 3, 1910 in the village of Folsom:
Matilda Williams, 79, widowed, pensioner, cannot read/write, mother of 13 children (4 still living); son Thornton, 25, single, farmer, cannot read/write; son Silas, 39, single, laborer at odd jobs, cannot read/write.
1920 Census, Wetzel County, WV (Grant District), enumerated on Feb 6, 1920:
Matilda Williams, 81, widowed, cannot read/write; son Silas, 67, widowed, cannot read/write, laborer in lumber industry; son Thornton, 37, single, cannot read/write, laborer in oil industry.
