Identified as John E. Dickens, white male, widowed, age 25, nationality Irish, born in Caroline Co Virginia, occupation laborer; died Feb 3 1889 at Smithton, cause of death "run over by cars." Burial in Smithton on Feb 4 1889. Informant: Joseph Cheuvront, West Union, undertaker.
(NOTE: Middle initial given as G in 1880 Census. Unclear which is correct. "Run over by cars" would refer to train cars, as Smithton (now Smithburg) was the location of a B & O Railroad depot. The Smithton burial location is presumed to refer to Archbold Cemetery, where his mother was buried some years later.)

Identified as John Dickens, age 21 as of Oct 26 1884, born in Caroline County, Virginia, res. in Doddridge Co; and Mrs. Elizabeth Maley (sic), 21, b. & res. in Doddridge Co. Married Oct 15 1885 "at the residence of Owen Breniger" by F. J. Ashburn, a Minister of the Gospel.
(Note: Wife was the widow of Sanford Male, not Maley. In the the 1880 Census of Grant District, Doddridge County, Owen Brinegar, 34, b. North Carolina, blacksmith, was head of household with a wife (Naomi Riggs Huffman Brinegar) and six children. His relationship to either of the parties in this marriage is not known.)
