The handwritten record is actually a list of four marriages performed by a particular minister between Aug 1847 and Oct 1848. It reads, in part, "I hereby certify that I joined together ... Mr. Hugh Gaston and Miss Elizabeth Washburn on the first day of June 1848 ... agreeably to a license issued from the clerk's office of Lewis county court. Given under my hand this 29th day of May 1849. Carr Bailey, Minister of the Baptist Church." Just below that entry is a handwritten statement reading "The above certificate of marriages was presented in the clerk's office of Lewis county court on the 11th day of June 1849. Testa John Morrow, Clerk"
