"A most deplorable railroad accident occurred at the National cemetery near Grafton about midnight on the night of 22 April 1903 which resulted in the sudden death of Lloyd B. Southworth, of West Union, and a brakeman on the B&O. No one seems to know just how the accident happened. The Grafton Sentinel reported: Brakeman Lloyd Southworth, 25 years old, was instantly killed and his body ground to pieces in the west Grafton yards at the National Cemetery early Thursday morning, 23 April 1903. Conductor Liler of yard engine 1130 discovered his mutilated body about one o'clock in the morning. His body was interred in the West Union IOOF Cemetery. Lloyd was 25 years of age and unmarried and had many friends. His unexpected death cast a gloom over the entire community."
