- Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Feb 3 1916, in its entirety:
"Odebert Herrod, who is teaching the school on Buffalo Calf, was a West Union visitor last Saturday. We understand he expects to be preaching instead of teaching some day."
Odbert Herrod once said that Mansfield Neely was pretty wild at he age of 15 or 16. People said that they didn't know what would become of him. Odbert was born in the Erwin log cabin that is on Rt. 18, before you get to Redemption. He was teaching at that school (Buffalo Calf) when he met his wife. She said "When he came to Buffalo Calf, I fell in love with the school teacher."
