1930 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (Central District), enumerated on Apr 25 1930 at the Doddridge County Infirmary on U.S. Route 50:
Enumeration first listed the head of the infirmary (more commonly referred to as the County Poor Farm, located at Sunnyside), who was Laban Bennett, age 53. Also enumerated was his wife, Stella B. Bennett, age 50, followed by 19 "inmates" of both sexes ranging in age from 82 down to 1 yr 11 mo. Nearly half were children, and most of the others were over 70. Among the inmates listed were the following eight members of the Rucker family, relationships not stated:
Blanch Rucker, 42, widowed, occupation laborer at house work; Ethel, 14; Myrl, 12; Howard, 10; Dorsey, 8; Clarence, 6; Cecil, 4; Ellen, 1 yr 11 mo.
Although Blanche's marital status was listed as widowed, the 1930 Census found her husband as an inmate at the West Virginia State Penitentiary in Moundsville. His entry was as follows: Lee Rucker, 68, married, age 22 at time of first marriage, occupation janitor, veteran of the Spanish-American War. Similarly, the 1930 Census found Blanche and Lee's son Berlie L. Rucker, 15, in Taylor County, enumerated as an inmate at the West Virginia Industrial School for Boys.
1940 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (Town of West Union), enumerated on Apr 3 1940 at 107 Blockhouse Hill Street:
Blanche Rucker, 52, widowed; dau Ruby, 28, single, occupation housework in private home; dau Merle, 21, single; son Howard, 20, single, laborer (W.P.A.); son Dorsey, 18, single, new worker; son Cecil, 14; dau Ellen, 12; dau Opal, 9; grandson Johnny, 9; granddau Irene, 7; dau Mary Rayford, 29, b. WVa married, housework in private home, resided 1935 in Middleport Ohio; grandson Fritz Rayford, 8, b. WVa, resided 1935 in Middleport Ohio; grandson Leo Rayford, 4, b. Ohio; granddau Thelma Rayford, 3, b. Ohio.
