    Notes
    • The parentage of Benjamin Brown, presumed husband of Abigail Cleveland (and father of Benjamin Brown (b. ca 1733) who married Hannah Benjamin), has not been determined. His name is known only from a reference in "The Benjamin Family in America," p. 113, wherein the husband of Hannah Benjamin is identified as "Benjamin Brown, the son of Benjamin and Abigail (Cleveland) Brown." There is some evidence, however, that the elder Benjamin Brown and Abigail Cleveland were never married, as reflected in an entry in the Bastard Files book at the Connecticut State Library. He is presumed to have died in Connecticut before 1741, since Abigail's first child by her second husband was born in November of that year.

Although quite possible, it would be only speculation to suggest that this is the Benjamin Brown widely reported as the son of Deacon Thomas Brown and the father of Rufus Brown. If any reader of this genealogy has information which would support or disprove this possibility, please let us know.
