J. Marie (Hamrick) Buckhannon McIe, 86, departed this life, January 23, 2011, at the Heritage Nursing Home in Bridgeport.
She was born April 25, 1924 in Slaty Fork, Webster Springs, WV, a daughter to the late Ross and Nellie Zimmerman Hamrick.
(Note: Slatyfork is in Pocahontas County. Webster Springs is in Webster County.)
Marie is survived by two daughters, Sandra K. Murphy, Laurel Valley and Rebecca J. Britton, Summit Park, one daughter in law, Susie Buckhannon, Clarksburg, five grandchildren; Tom Murphy, Ohio, Tim Murphy, Preston Co., Courtney Higgins, Taylor Co., Christina M. Britton, Clarksburg and Andrew Britton, Clarksburg; seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Murphy, Ian Murphy, Zane Murphy, Kiersten Buckhannon, Kaylin Higgins, Jaren Higgins and Kelcee M. Britton; two brothers, Don Hamrick, Florida, Karl Hamrick, Ohio and five sisters, Betty Stephens, Virginia, Sue Este, Alabama, Dot Ticel, Ohio, Carolyn Parmer, Ohio and Mary Francis Cunningham, Stonewood, several nieces, nephews and great nieces, nephews and a very special friend Mary Louise Britton.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew P. Buckhannon, in 1986, and second husband Williard G. McIe, in 1991,a son Joseph Buckhannon, two brothers, one sister and two sons in law, Tom Murphy and Clifton Britton.
Marie had worked for Maidenform, St. Mary's Hospital and babysit for many doctor's children in the area and janitorial work for Mr. Bartlett of Bartlett and Tetrick Accounting offices.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the Heritage Nursing Home staff, who provided excellent care during her residence there. Also, to Sr. Church, 4 North at UHC, Dr. Ahmed, and especially Dr. Dubberke for caring for her during her last hours.
At Marie's request there will be no services. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the family or the Heritage Nursing Home activities dept.
