Catherine remarried Charles (birth name Carl) Kieninger in 1873. 1880 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (Southwest District), enumerated on Jun 19 1880: Charles Kieninger, 47, farmer, health contion "lung affected"; wife Catherine Kieninger, 42; stepson Joseph Hager, 18, single, works on farm; stepson Charles Hager, 13, works on farm; stepdau Razena; 11; stepdau Catherine, 8; son Henry, 4; dau Clara, 1. All born in West Virginia except Charles and the elder Catherine, born in Germany. (Note: Charles' birthplace was shown in his marriage record as Austria.) We have found no record of Charles (Carl) Kieninger after this census. In 1895 and thereafter, his wife Catherine, as well as their children Henry and Clara, were identified consistently by Catherine's previous married surname Hager. As reflected in the 1910 Census, their son Henry later reverted to his birth name, spelled Keininger, more in keeping with German orthography. The obituary of Charles and Catherine's daughter Clara's husband identified his wife as Clara Hager, rather than by her birth name Kieninger or Keininger. 1895 State Census, Doniphan Co, Kansas (Wayne Twp): Joseph Hager, 30; Henry Hager, 19; Catherine Hager, 55; Clara Hager, 16. All born in West Virginia except Catherine, born in Germany.
