No entry for this Rufus Brown was found in the 1820 Census. There is a Rufus Brown and his family listed in that census in the town of Thompson in Windham County, but that was found through probate records to be a different Rufus Brown, who died in 1825 and whose wife was Huldah.

Rufus Brown died in July 1832 and was survived by his wife Mary, who died in January 1838. A record of their children's names is found in Grantor Record Book 65, p. 413, Cooperstown NY, dated Feb 29 1840, in which the children of Rufus Brown signed a Conveyance-Indenture transferring ownership of his property to them. This was presumably done as part of the settlement of Rufus's estate, or perhaps of Mary's. Rufus and Mary probably died in Otsego County, their last known residence and the place of their burial.
