    • Her name appears as Mary Jane McIntire in "The History of Doddridge County, WV," p. 251, with the entry written by an unidentified family member. But name was provided by Leeson genealogist Dolores Leeson "Dee" Dawson as Claudia L. (Clarinda?) McIntyre, source unspecified. Obituary of daughter, Lucy Leeson Squires in 1954, identifies parents as Eli B. and Clarinda McIntyre Leeson, as does obituary of son Dr. D. Leeson in 1955. Birth records of children consistently identify her as Clarinda, and her own headstone also reads Clarinda. No other reference to her given name as Mary Jane, or the family name spelled McIntire, has been found.

      Local news item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, Sep 19 1918, excerpted from article titled "Probate Matters":
      "July 24, 1918
      "Dr. D. Leeson filed his petition praying that a committee be appointed by said clerk for Eli B. Leeson, a person unable to transact his business, and after hearing the evidence the Clerk appointed W. F. Squires Committee who took the oath required by law and entered into a bond in the penalty of $300, with John W. Hart and Dr. D. Leeson as his surety."

      Groom identified as Eli B. Leason [sic], age 28, b. Harrison Co, Va., son of William & Nancy. Bride identified as Claundi [sic] McIntire, age 22, b. Harrison Co, Va, dau of Charles & Eliza. Ceremony held Dec 29 1861. The handwritten entry of the bride's name was immediately overwritten to reflect the above spellings, but even then the entry was not entirely clear. The name Claudia has also been offered as her name, but the entry does not appear to say that. Clarinda is the name that later is given at the births of her children.
