- After graduating from Salem College, Salem, WV, he taught in Wood County, WV, public schools for several years. Frustrated with student behavioral problems, he left teaching and became a police officer in Parkersburg, WV, retiring with 20 years service. Even then, he remained active as a successful real estate agent in Parkersburg. Gib was a man of many talents and great determination. In carpentry and other projects, his ultimate solution when something wouldn't quite fit was to resort to a tool that he called "the persuader," known to anyone else as a sledgehammer. That usually did the trick.
