    Notes
    • 1900 Census, Cambria County, Pennsylvania (Stony Creek Twp), enumerated on Jun 8 1900:
John H. Davis, 32, b. Apr 1868 in WVa, steam fitter, married 5 yrs; wife Camilla A, 32, b. Feb 1868 in WVa, married 5 yrs, mother of 2 children (both still living); dau Eulalia B, 4, b. Dec 1895 in WVa; son Maulsby L, 2 months, b. Mar 1900 in Pa.

Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Sep 21 1916, in its entirety:
"The Maulsby homestead on the corner of Court and Church streets was sold to John M. Gribble for $5,000 the past week by Mrs. Camilla A. Davis. The lot is approximately 100 x 100 feet."

1930 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (West Union District), enumerated on Apr 10 1930 on Route 50 in Smithburg:
      John Davis, 61, widowed, plumber.
NOTE: The "widowed" marital status is almost certainly incorrect. His marital status in 1910 and 1920 was divorced, and in 1940 was married, with his wife not being present. His wife Camelia was a resident of Washington, DC in 1920, 1930 and 1949. His obituary stated that he had remarried Mrs. Rosa Stewart, for which we have found no record.

1940 Census, Doddridge Co, WV (West Union District), enumerated on Apr 4 1940 at Route 50:
      S. Jack Squires, 56, farmer; wife Clemma, 56; lodger John H. Davis, 71, married (wife not present), plumber.
NOTE: Information furnished via email in November 2018 by a granddaughter of S.J. and Clemma Squires provides insight into the relationship of the household members:
"As I was told when young, Mr. Davis sold the property to my grandparents with the stipulation that he could live with them and have a garden space for the rest of his life, which he did. I remember him often collecting and hulling black walnuts from our several walnut trees, as well as butternuts and hickory nuts for my grandmother, which she always appreciated." [8]
