- Diantha is widely accepted by researchers to have been the biological daughter of Joseph J. Davis, 1818-1892, the son of Nathan J. Davis and Keziah Davis. Joseph Davis was married to Sarah "Sallie" Davis at the time of Diantha's birth. Diantha reportedly took the Davis surname at some point (she was listed as Diantha Lowther in the 1850 Census, but later was known as Diantha Mary Davis) and moved to Ohio (possibly with her mother Barsheba, about whom nothing more is known), where she married and raised a family.
