- James H. Cunningham, Jr., was awarded a Purple Heart for injuries suffered when his ship, the U.S. Navy destroyer Hammann ( DD-412) was sunk on June 6, 1942, while aiding the Yorktown at the Battle of Midway. In 2003, he was the keynote speaker at the Midway Battle Commemoration.
