Cecil Cox's widow was informed by letter that his ship, the USS LSM 190, was sunk 30 miles off the coast of Okinawa. The website www.navsource.org states that the LSM 190(R) was launched on Sep 21 1944, commissioned on Nov 23 1944, and participated in the Okinawa Gunto Campaign Mar 26 to May 4 1944. The ship was hit and sunk by a Japanese Kamikaze plane off Okinawa, 4 May 1945, while on radar picket duty.
