While the marriage date is reported here as Dec 1 1853, Wes Cochran's "Ritchie County Marriages" shows it as Oct 11 1853, as does "Tichenor Families in America," p. 150. Minnie Kendall Lowther goes so far as to identify the presiding minister, the Reverend George Collins. Examination of the original handwritten entry in the ledger-style marriage record book reveals that the date really could be interpreted either way. But since Minnie Kendall Lowther obviously consulted the original record herself (the only way she would know the minister's name) and she would have been familiar with the handwriting style, we accept her interpretation.
