    Notes 
    • Joseph Gaston (1763-1836) served at the battles of Hanging Rock and at Buford's defeat. He received a pension as a private in Chester county, where he was born and where he died. [5]
    • Wounded with a shot that hit under his eye in the Battle of Hanging Rock, SC, in the Revolutionary War. He later became a Magistrate for over forty years, and was also an elder of the Presbyterian Church. In 1830, he was elected to the South Carolina Legislature, and shortly before his death he published an article describing his Revolutionary War experiences. [4]
