    • News item, Clarksburg News, reprinted in Wheeling Intelligencer, Tuesday, 9 Oct 1877:
      "Josiah Reed, of Doddridge county, was found dead, Thursday morning, lying under the bridge that crosses Middle island Creek, at West Union. Reed was a well to do citizen of Doddridge, who was in the habit of frequently coming to West Union and getting on longe sprees. He was on one of his sprees at the time of his death."
      NOTE: His death record indicates the death date as 3 Oct 1877, which was a Wednesday.
