    • Military records show that on June 17, 1862, in West Union, David C. McNemar enlisted as a Private in Co M, 6th W.Va. Infantry. He was enlisted by Capt. John Carroll. He mustered in on the same date in Clarksburg under Lt. Crawford. Company M was redesignated Company O in December 1864.

      Records also show that in January and February 1863, Pvt David C. McNemar was assigned guard duty at No. 5 Tunnel & Bridge of the Northwestern Virginia Railroad (N.W.V.R.R.). From March to June 1863, he performed guard duty at No. 18 Tunnel & Bridge of the N.W.V.R.R. Records also show that from July 1863 to February 1864, he performed guard duty at Blockhouse No. 7 of the N.W.V.R.R.
