      "A. J. Riddle and wife of Pullman were guests of the Columbian Saturday. Mr. Riddle has been operating extensively in the timber business on Hughes River, South West District; he has purchased large tracts of timber on Toms Fork, New Milton District, and will proceed to manufacture it into staves and cross ties."

      Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Jan 6 1916, in its entirety:
      "A. J. Riddle of Pullman, who is operating two stave mills in this county, one on the Levi Maxwell farm, New Milton district, and one in South West district, was a Saturday's business visitor here. It has been whispered that Mr. Riddle contemplates locating in West Union, and we take this opportunity to declare out position on the matter: First, West Virginia has few better business men and no better citizens that Jud Riddle; and second, Jud Riddle won't find any better town, anywhere on the map, than our own West Union."

      "A. J. Riddle, of Pullman, who recently purchased the Kinney house and lot in the Fairview additon to West Union, has put a slate roof on the house and is building a porch around the house and otherwise improving it, and will soon move into it. He will have one of the nicest residences in the town."

      "Mr. A. J. Riddle was called to Morgantown Sunday on account of the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. M. E. Riddle. Mrs. Riddle is now past 82 years and on account of her advanced age, her friends have grave fears as to her recovery."
