- In March 2021, Linda Burgess Collins, granddaughter of Lawson H. Gribble, shared a family photo and the following story about her grandfather:
Today as I was pondering what is true "giving," a time in my grandparents' life came to me. My grandfather carried mail, and in the winters he did it on horseback. (A little side note: He would carry milk and bread to people up the roads that were too muddy for people to get out.) He was still working in the Depression, but a lot of the family members (friends) were not, so he shared his wages with the ones not working. Now to the giving part: Sharing his paycheck took money from his family, so my Mom and her siblings had to put cardboard in their shoes and do without some everyday things that were not 100 percent necessary. My Grandfather Lawson Gribble is on the right and these are his siblings. Aunt Doch, Aunt Ressie, Uncle Oak and Uncle Forrest.
