Mr. Donnelly set a powerful example across the Agency of enlightened leadership, executive accountability, sound intelligence tradecraft, and personal and professional integrity. His assignments ranged from case officer and Chief of Station to Deputy Director for Administration and Inspector General.

WILLIAM F. DONNELLY "Bill"
Of Annandale, VA passed away September 22, 2017 at Inova Fairfax Hospital of internal bleeding from an unknown cause at the age of 89.
During his 36-year career with the CIA, he received two Distinguished Intelligence Medals and was named one of the first 50 CIA Trailblazers at the Agency's 50th Anniversary celebration.
He served in the US Army 1951-53 as 1st Lt, 49th Field Artillery Battalion, 7th Infantry Division in combat in Korea, for which he was awarded the Bronze Star.
In retirement, he enjoyed genealogical research, wrote The Wests of Duck Creek, and found and published about lost cemeteries in the hills of West Virginia.
He was predeceased by his parents
John F. Donnelly and
Helen Jane Ripley and
step-mother Margaret Olive Husband (South Euclid, Ohio); his brother George (Centennial, CO); and his first wife Margery Jean Beazley (Annandale, VA).
He is survived by his second wife Peggy Hall Donnelly, who he married in 1983;
son John and wife Deborah (Briggs);
daughter Elizabeth Jane Leathem and husband Paul, and four grandchildren, William and Erin Donnelly and Jenna and Samantha Leathem.
