    • There is a discrepancy regarding when and where Robert Wilson Devericks entered military service. His entry in "Young American Patriots, 1941-1945" states 26 May 1939 at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. But his Army enlistment record states that he enlisted on 6 January 1941 at Terra Alta in Preston County WV, with his residence stated as Preston County and his occupation as an attendant at a hospital or other institution. Terra Alta at that time was the location of the West Virginia state tuberculosis sanitarium. His enlistment record indicated that he had been in the National Guard.

On 11 April 1945 and again on 2 June 1945, Robert W. Devericks was wounded in action at Okinawa, Japan. At least the second injury was the result of a land mine. He sustained puncture wounds and compound fractures of his lower leg (patella) and hand. Treatment included removal of bone fragments, closing of the wounds, and application of splints or casts. He was administered penicillin therapy and remained in the convalescent hospital until October 1945, pending medical discharge. He returned to the U.S. before 30 Oct 1945, on which date his military draft registration showed his residence as Clarksburg. His obituary states his service dates as 1941 to 1946.

His military awards included two Purple Hearts, six Bronze Star Medals, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, and Philippine Islands Liberation Medal.
